National Security Council 2025: The War on Drugs

A variety of illicit drugs such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin are flooding across the U.S. border with Mexico and causing an epidemic of overdose deaths. Fentanyl alone causes around seventy thousand deaths annually. The actors funneling these drugs to U.S. consumers are Mexican drug cartels that operate complex transnational criminal networks. For the past fifty years, the U.S. government has trieda variety of approaches to cripple the drug cartels and stem the inflow of drugs, but the drug trade has consistently adapted to U.S. efforts. In this committee, delegates shall craft a national security strategy informing how the United States combats the drug cartels and the deleterious impacts of the drugs they traffic.
