Can You See the (Euro)Vision? The Founding of the EU, 1991

The Maastricht Treaty is on the horizon, but the path to European integration is anything but certain. In this committee, delegates will step into the roles of key policymakers in December 1991 as they negotiate the economic and political future of Europe. With the Soviet Union dissolving and global markets transforming, the European Communities face critical questions: Should member states adopt a common currency? How can political integration balance sovereignty and unity? And how should the Communities navigate the inclusion of Eastern European nations? Delegates will debate the design of economic and monetary union, refine the framework for political cooperation, and address questions of membership criteria and democratic legitimacy. Will Europe unify under a bold vision of collective prosperity, or will national interests fracture the dream of integration? The choice is yours.
